How could a dead man seek to kill Baby Jesus?
by THE SHOOTIST inhistorians say that king herod the great the famous baby killer who sought to kill baby jesus, died in the year 4 b.c.. now all those religious groups like the jws who believe jesus was born oct 1/2, 2 b.c.
seem to have a real problem reconciling that with historians.
how could a man dead for 2 years carry out this act of aggression against the son of god?

How come Philo, a writer of that day who chronicled the events in and around Jerusalem along with 40 or more writers of that time period, fail to chroncile such an outstanding event? All these same writers seemed to forget to mention Jesus as well. I think I smell a con.

I should have been drinking instead of going to all those meetings. Maybe I should have been drinking and then going to the meeting, then the crap would have gone down easier. Hell, if I was drinking at the meetings, maybe I'd still be there.

Just a little added information in agreement with Mutz, more than 40 writers are known to have chronicled the events in Israel/Palestine at the alleged time of Jesus and not one of them mentions him. The writer Philo lived throughout the life of Jesus and wrote a history of the Judeans, which covered the whole period. Philo lived in or near Jerusalem at the time Jesus was supposed have been born and done all those great events and yet he never mentioned those great events or Jesus existance. He never said zilch, you know, the big fat zero. I believe that the Hebrew historian Josephus is an obvious later addition in the church's desperation to cross-reference their meal ticket.
Another historical fact is that Herod the Great, the ruler seeking to kill baby Jesus died in 4 B.C.. This really causes problems for religious groups that say he was born in 2 B.C., 2 years after Herod's death. The supposed census most historians place around 6 A.D., you know the one Joseph and Mary were going to while she was pregnant with Jesus, occurred some 8 years after his birth or that was one hell of a long pregnancy. -

I'll give you 4 names: Jesus of Nazareth; Dionysus or Bacchus Son of God of Greece; Krishna, the Son Of God Of India; Attis, the Son of God of Phrygia. Just a hint, none of the above are Jesus of Nazareth and they all predate him in history. So another question, Is the Bible Jesus real or a mystical conglomeration of all the Saviours worshipped for thousands of years by millions of people?

Question About Matthew 13:24
by lynnmelo inas some of you may know (from my previous posts), i'm studying with the jw's (& have been for 2 years) but have decided not to be baptized after reading some of the information and links from this site.
however, i am supposed to be having one last book study to finish the worship the one true god book.
when i do this study, i'm considering being upfront with my bible study conductor, telling her some of my reasons for deciding not to become a jw.

One thing you have to remember is that JWs are cut and paste professionals. That same cut and paste technique can also be used in your favor but you have to stick to your guns. This is my suggestion. Have your study conductor open to Matt. 24:45-47 and then refer to verse 48 preferrably using another translation which would say wordings like (if that servant is evil) or (if that slave is evil) which means the slave of Matt 24:45-47 is the same slave as verse 48 and all you see is a comparison of the differences between the conduct of a good servant or slave and a bad servant or slave. Tell them that is all you see and nothing more. Then refer Matt. 18:23-35 and say this is another story of Jesus about a bad slave forgiven his huge debt by his master who goes out and does damage to or beats his fellow slave over a small debt. It too is just a story comparing a good and bad slave. Another good reference is to when Jesus washed the feet of his followers and his words in John 13:15-17 that discribe how the conduct of the good slave would be like that of the master. Remember, just make them read it for what it says without their little formulas. Remember, the JWs are led by an unfaithful and indiscreet slave that haven't made an accurate prediction in over 125 years. So what gives them the right to say this one little verse taken out of context, Matt.13:24 can be used as a greater understanding of Matt.24:45-47. That's just as bad as the Mormons and the 2 sticks of Joseph.

Is Christmas for Pagans?
by LittleToe ingiven that so many practises associated with christmas are blatantly christian in origin, is christmas truly for pagans?.
i know that often there are few christian connotations attributed to it nowadays, in such a secularised society, but history is on record in showing that the whole baby jesus thing is definitely a christian element.
would any true pagan today want to drink such a mixed cup?.

Everyone is talking about christmas being pagan, but I ask, are the roots of the Messiah pagan? I'm going to describe 3 historical saviours and you decide if this adds to or takes away from the Jesus image. Saviour 1. Born on Dec 25th of a virgin mother, called a saviour and only-begotten son, died to save mankind, crucified on Black Friday, his blood spilled to redeem the earth, suffering death with nails and stakes, the Father and the Son combined in an earthly body, put in a tomb, went down into the underworld and 3 days later his body disappears from the tomb and he was resurrected as the Most High God whose body symbolized by bread and was eaten by his followers. His name, Attis, the Son of God of Phrygia. Saviour 2. Born of a virgin on Dec. 25th and his father was a carpenter, a star marked his birthplace and angels and shepherds were attending, the ruler slaughtered infants in order to kill him, but he survived to heal the sick, lepers, blind and deaf, dying about the age of 30 being crucified on a tree, portrayed on a cross, rose from the dead, considered to be the saviour, followers knew him as Jezeus (which means pure essence) and is is said he will return on a white horse to judge the dead and fight the Prince of Evil. His name, Krishna, the Son of God of India. Saviour 3. Born of a virgin on Dec 25th, put in a manger in swadling clothes, a traveling teacher performing miracles, turning water into wine, rode in triumph on an ass, the lamb of God, God of the Vine, God of Gods, King of KIngs, Only Begotten Son, bearer of sins, Reedemer, Anointed One (Christos), Alpha and Omega, hung and crucified on a tree, rose from the dead on Mar. 25th, and worshipped by some Hebrews during the 1st century BC. His name, Dionysus or Bacchus, Son of God of Greece. I think that history has all 3 of these saviours predating the Christmas Jesus of Nazareth, I propose that not only is Christmas pagan but that the whole Jesus concept is a pagan creation using saviours worshipped for thousands of years prior to him as the format. IN CONLUSION, HAVE A BLAST. PAGAN IS PAGAN AND A GOOD TIME IS GOOD TIME NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL IT!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS

Is it all downhill after leaving JW's?
by lynnmelo ini know many people will get angry at this, but i had to share some observations i've had since i discovered this board a couple of days ago (see my original post under "why all the venom?").
i'll be very honest and say that i was hoping that i would discover that the jw's were wrong about some things, including the so-called "apostate" sites (i have been recommended to some internet sites and some books that i plan to investigate further).
i was hoping to find that people really didn't need the jw's "spiritual food" to remain true to god.

Ater reading your post and thinking carefully about what you were saying, My question is, have you taken over 5 minutes to read anythings on this board? If this is how you feel about the people and the information provided here then he my suggestion is to go down to your local Kingdom Hall Sunday, crawling on your belly begging the elders for mercy and help. Tell them that the evil bunch of bashers on the JW Discussion Board proved they were right with Jehovah all along. With your kind of reasoning you should be back in good graces almost overnight, a MS within six months, an elder, two years max, and a CO within five years. Hell, you might make it straight to the governing body as soon as you claim you're one of the anointed. Sounds to me like you're ready That's uphill for sure.
